Carving Crayons

From the folks over at the Make blog, check out these carved crayons by artist Pete Goldlust.

His arrangement demonstrates how sensitive the eye is to small changes in frequency in the green band. He found a pleasing sequence that is almost the rainbow, but with the greens separated. None of the other colors would clash so strongly as those three greens, if they were next to each other. The textures look like electron micrographs. You find the most awe inspiring images.
